Why do most people not care for animals?

People treat animals as products....and I'm sick of it. They use them for lab experiments, hunt them for sport. Animals have lives, they aren't just an object. They think and feel like us. Just because we are more intelligent than them, does that give us the right to treat them like rubbish? When I read statistics about 40 million doves getting shot every year for sports, I just feel dreadful. Why don't people care? Oh, a squirrel just died, who cares, actually, lets laugh about it. People laughing about death. And people are STILL poaching, skinning animals. How would you like to be killed, just so someone could stuff you and put you in a rug. And if one tiger kills someone, ONE person, people have to shoot 50 tigers in the area. People should not be superior over animals. They still have lives, have souls, view the world, and want to survive. Oh and burning down animals habitats for our SELFISH use is completely wrong too.
